The French worker and activist Theo has long been on a hunger strike in protest of his arrest, and is now a political prisoner in France. In several countries, among them the US and Austria, revolutionaries have carried out actions in solidarity with comrade Theo.
The French revolutionary newspaper ‘La cause de peuple’ has covered the story. They have published a letter from comrade Theo, along with a description of how the police showed up at his new workplace in a purely provocative arrest – instead of simply arresting him at his place of residence. Comrade Theo’s hunger strike is:
- to receive official status as a political prisoner.
- to be transferred to a prison in Riom.
- in solidarity with revolutionary political prisoners, especially comrade Georges Ibraham Abdallah.
Abdallah is a Palestinian liberation activist who has been imprisoned in France for several decades, accused of an armed action allegedly carried out on behalf of the Palestinian liberation struggle. French revolutionaries have long struggled for Abdallah’s freedom and in solidarity with his political struggle.
Comrade Theo was arrested on July 22 and is considered by the revolutuonarty movement to be a political prisoner. The police are attempting to tie him to a political protest qaction against a French minister in connection with the enormous protest movement that has shaken France all year, known as the “Yellow Vests”.
French Maoists and revolutionaries have maintained a strong presence among these protests. The hammer and sickle has appeared spray-painted on many walls, along with graffiti in support of the Maoist communist party, Maoism, and Chairman Gonzalo. This has of course aroused reactionary resentment.
‘La cause de peuple’ writes on solidarity actions in Ireland, Canada, Brazil, Germany, and Switzerland. ‘New Epoch Media’ has written on a number of actions in Austria. ‘Incendiary New Service’ reports actions in several parts of the US.
In his letter from prison, translated to English by comrades at New Epoch Media, comrade Theo concludes with the slogans:
Freedom for all political prisoners!
In the face of repression, let’s make blows for blows!
Down with imperialism and its guard dogs!
Proletarians of all countries, unite!
Let’s dare to fight! Let’s dare to defeat!
FRENCH STATE – Free comrade Theo! Support the political prisoners! (New Epoch Media)
