Afghanistan has in this month seen its “deadliest” week in 19 years of imperialist Yankee intervention. France24 published a report from the news agency Reuters that the “Taliban” has carried out 422 attacks among 32 provinces within the course of one week.
In the attacks, 291 security forces from the reactionary Afghan state were to have been killed and 550 reported wounded. Taliban spokespersons Zabihullah Mujahid tells news agency AFP that the numbers from the Quisling government are inaccurate and that the “enemy is attempting to damage the peace process (…) by publishing such false reports”. The spokesperson furthermore says that some attacks have been carried out, but that they primarily were done so in self-defence.
The US and the Taliban are currently engaged in peace talks. The current offer that the Taliban end its resistance struggle by being included in a new government for Afghanistan remains on the table. The Taliban refuses to negotiate with the authorities in Afghanistan, as they view them as nothing more than puppets for US imperialism. Therefore, the negotiations are being made directly with the US.
It is obvious that the factions, that today control Afghanistan, with support from Yankee-imperialism, have no interest in the Taliban coming to power and pushing them out from their positions of power. Their power and authority is completely dependent on the US and the influence of others imperialists. Therefore, it is plausible that they may be trying to stall the peace process.
On the contrary, there have been attacks that nobody has claimed responsibility for, and US special envoy Zalmay Khalilzad, who led the peace talks with the Taliban that ended with an agreement in February, says that the attack in the capital city of Kabul shows “what we all know”: that there are forces both within Afghanistan and abroad that are attempting to discard and interrupt the peace process.
A part of the agreement entails prisoner releases, and the Afghan Yankee-puppet is said to have released 3000 Taliban prisoners at the time of write and will, in accordance with the Yankee-Taliban agreement, release an additional 2000 prisoners before the talks between the parties are to continue.
The US invaded Afghanistan in 2001 with support from the UN and NATO, Yankee-dominated organizations. The stated goal was to remove the Taliban from power in the country and to remove the basis of Al Qaeda from the Afghan mountains after the September 11 attacks on the World Trade Center and the Pentagon.
Norwegian imperialism eventually took an active role in the war and in the occupation. Thousands of Norwegian soldiers have served in Afghanistan as lackeys for Yankee-imperialism and Norwegian imperialism. The war has led to hundreds of thousands of deaths and millions of refugees, but after nearly 20 years, it is clear that the US is in no position to win a decisive victory, and sees no recourse but to negotiate with the Taliban in order to get themselves out of the quagmire.
