Protests in Georgia

Friday June 21, the Georgian capital city of Tbilisi saw mass demonstrations against imperialism. Thousands of people took part in the protests, which quickly unraveled into struggles throughout the entire city.

On June 19, a delegation from the Russian Orthodox Church held a speech in the Georgian House of Representatives, and a politician from the false Russian «Communist Party» (RKFP), which in 2008 stood for the recognition of the independence of Abkhazia and South Ossetia, took part in the delegation. These regions’ autonomy could only be established through military intervention by Russian imperialism. That is: an imperialist war of aggression for these states’ formal independence, which in practice became areas occupied by the Russian military in 2008. The Russian government hopes for even greater influence in the region and particularly in the consistently rebellious area of the former Russian semi-colony of Georgia.

A demonstration with more than 10,000 participants attempted to storm the parliamentary building Friday night and thereby canceled the next day’s session. Security forces could only hinder the assault with the aid of water cannons, tear gas, and rubber bullets, and even then with great difficulty. According to bourgeois media, more than 250 demonstrators were injured during the struggles, and the total non-reported incidents are thought to be much higher.

The Russian answer came shortly after. The Kremlin released a statement that Russian planes would not fly to Georgia before July 8, and that Georgian planes would not be allowed to land on Russian soil. This sanction will most likely hit the Georgian people hard and shows clearly the character of imperialism.
