German and American comrades have recently written about several days of upheavals and protests in Ireland.
Third consecutive day of riots in Ireland (Dem Volke dienen)
For centuries, Ireland has been a British colony. Through a bloody national liberation war, most of Ireland became formally independent, but the Northern counties remain under colonial control and are known as “Northern Ireland”, or Ulster.
The Irish resistance and struggle for liberation is known all over Europe and the world. The struggle for a unified and independent Ireland continues. Last week, there were large protests, British flags were burned on bonfires, and youth fought with occupation police.
The demonstrations happened in connection with provocations from loyalists (groups that openly support the British occupation) and the 50 year anniversary of the Battle of Bogside, where the British army was stationed in “Northern Ireland”.
Police report that they were attacked with dozens of Molotov cocktails, paint bombs, stones, and bottles.
Those who wish to learn more about the Irish struggle are encouraged to read Socialist Republican Media, a revolutionary website for independence and socialism in Ireland. Their position is that Ireland’s liberation must go hand in hand with socialist revolution.
