Israel has for several decades occupied the West Bank and built settlements in the region that have displaced the local population. Now, NRK reports that Israel’s prime minister is planning to annex large land areas – up to 30% of the West Bank in Palestine. And he says that he plans to do so in coordination with Donald Trump. He has not commented on what will happen to the population that is already living in these areas.
However, the tendency since the inception of Israel until the present day has been genocide against the Palestinians and apartheid. 6 million Palestinians are today refugees who have been displaced, half of whom are stateless. Several of these were forcibly displaced, or are direct descendants of those who were displaced during the ethnic cleansing campaign during the Nakba in 1948, when the Israeli state was established in a bloody war. In several towns, Israel carried out outright massacres against the Palestinian population. 400-600 towns were depopulated and 700.000 Palestinians were made to flee. Since Israel’s establishment, roughly 65.000 Palestinians have been killed, where at least 21.000 (although most likely many more) were civilians. And for several decades, Israel has driven people out of their homes to demolish them and build new settlements.
On the same day that he announced his plans, Israel bombed 15 targets in Gaza. Nobody was killed in the attacks, but Israel has earlier killed thousands of people in bombing runs against Gaza, especially in the massive assaults in 2008-2009, 2012, and 2014.
