Popular Women’s Movement-Movimiento Femenino Popular reports on their Facebook page that members of the organisation, supporters, photographers and members of the community were attacked by the police during their procession on the International Working Women’s Day in Austin, Texas. Many of them are now sitting in jail only because they have marked the Working Women’s Day.
This year’s march was in honour to the victims of sexism, like Veneranda Martinez from the Montopolis-area. The activists were making their way to the memorial for Veneranda when the Austin Police Department decided that working women could not march in the streets against daily abuse and exploitation they experience. The APD has also earlier attacked the International Working Women’s Day.
They write that the APD attack women every day, brutalise and assault the community or their families. They ignore women’s plea for help, they stand ready to stop each demonstration against sexism and exploitation in the local society. Especially demonstration held by the PWM-MFP which has exposed the APD as abusers and sexist pigs.
Over two dozen comrades was arrested, there has been created a crowdfunding campaign to cover legal fees and lost wages due to the arrests. You can find it here
I extend my solidarity to the jailed comrades.
Combat and resist!
And finally, the comrades in PWM-MFP says:
“We are enraged, but not deterred. For each of us they arrest, five more will join to take her place!”
“UNLEASH THE FURY OF WOMEN AS A MIGHTY FORCE FOR REVOLUTION!”
