The Sahrawi People’s Liberation Army (SPLA) has for several days in a row attacked the Moroccan occupation army. The SPLA is the armed portion of the liberation movement Polisario. After a 16-year long guerrilla war between Morocco and the Polisario-led Sahwari Arab Democratic Republic (SADR), a ceasefire has been in effect in the area since 1991.
Morocco currently controls three-fourths of the region and has erected a 2700km long wall to separate the region. The wall is protected with military towers and some of the world’s largest minefields. The SADR side of the wall is largely infertile and consists mostly of uninhabitable desert; most Sahwaris live in refugee camps in Algeria.
The situation has deteriorated in the last two months and the Norwegian Support Committee for Western Sahara has published several issues about the conflict. The Moroccan government has been attacking Sahrawari demonstrators at a peaceful blockade of a trade route between Western Sahara and Mauritania, where Morocco has paved a road leading up to the border and opened the crossing in order to export Sahrawari natural resources from the area. Due to this breach in the ceasefire, Polisario released a statement on November 17, declaring that the ceasefire has ended and that the territory is now a war zone.
NewEpoch Media writes that a report from SPLA concluded that the presence of the Moroccan occupation forces in the countries will have an inevitable end of death, injury, capture or flight. They write that the Sahrawari liberation army will not lay down their arms, but will continue with their concentrated attacks on the Moroccan position at the Wall of Shame.
NewEpoch also published a military declaration released by the liberation army:
“Units of the Sahrawi People’s Liberation Army continue to carry out intense attacks against the trenches of the occupation army in the Moroccan wall of shame.
During this day, units of the Saharawi People’s Liberation Army carried out intense attacks, these concentrated in the locations of the Moroccan occupation forces.

The brave units of the Sahrawi People’s Liberation Army will continue to beat the invaders’ strongholds along the wall of humiliation and shame.»
