According to NRK, the large Norwegian weapons company Kongsberg has entered into an agreement with the US Lockheed Martin. Kongberg’s largest owner is the Norwegian state, which according to Kongsberg owns over 56% of the company and in this manner constitutes an important part of Norwegian imperialism
A contract worth 2 billion NOK (228 million USD) entails delivering parts for 500 F-35 fighter jets.
The fighter jets are part of the US’s and NATO’s general armament and so-called “joint strike fighter” program, where the Norwegian state participates as a central trade partner.
In a time where these states are threatening war against Iran, the planes will most certainly enter operational service in the course of a few years and have an incredibly effective role in imperialism’s war machinery and war crimes against civilians, the way we have seen in Libya, Syria, Afghanistan, and Iraq.
Already in May of last year, the genocidal Israeli state put the first F-35 planes in active service.
In NRK’s article, it is also mentioned that the Kongsberg Group has entered additional contracts worth a total of 5.6 billion kroner. Kongsberg has refused to reveal the party they are delivering weapons to in these agreements.
